Labour Support
Be Massage therapists can help you as you transition from being
pregnant to having a baby.
Why have a massage therapist experienced in labour support
with you during your labour?
- A massage therapist can help you relax between contractions
by massaging your back, feet, shoulders, belly, or other parts
you want massaged. Any energy you can save between contractions
gives you more endurance for contractions and pushing.
- A massage therapist can help you during contractions to breath
optimally. This helps you deal with the pain of contractions.
- If you have back labour (when the baby’s occiput is posterior)
a massage therapist can apply counter pressure during contractions
to reduce pain.
- A massage therapist can help you find a more comfortable position
in which to labour.
- A massage therapist can also help advocate for you during labour
to make sure your choices are respected.
- A massage therapist can help your partner do all of the above
in a more effective way. It can be very hard for your partner
to be a good labour coach without any experience or training.
Our Experience and Training:
Betsy, Julie and Christine all have specific training in labour
support, and have assisted at births. Additionally, Betsy and Julie
have taught pregnancy massage to massage therapy students at a local
massage therapy school. Betsy also has taught labour support, and
has
supervised students at the IWK Grace massaging women in labour and
pregnant women. Betsy has a young son who was born at home with
the help of midwives and her partner.
